When we investigate the operational units by region, we see that 68 % is running in the Marmara Region. Aegean tollows by 12 %, Mediterranean by 9 %, Central Anatolia by 6 % and Black Sea by 5 %. it is a tact that there are no operational units yet in East and South East Anatolia regions at present. (See attached chart 1) This picture is due to the availability of natural gas in these regions in Turkey which are already well industrilized. in other words natural gas is brought to the most industrilized region, Marmara Region, as a first step by the government institution, BOTAS. Fuel oil, LPG and Naptha are commonly being used in Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia and Black Sea Regions due to unavailabity of natural gas. Cogeneration construction activities are at full speed due to shortage of electricity in Turkey especially in winter seasons of years 2000 and 2001. Turkish Cogeneration Association is pressurizing the Ministry of Energy to: ♦ Subsidize the prices of liquid fuels ♦ lncrease electricity selling price to grid These activities gave the expected result. Turkish Government issued a new regulation on 8th of October, 2000 increasing electricity sale prices generated by Autoproducers and subsidizing fuel prices.
