New chairman for Cogen Europe Members of COGEN Europe have unanimously el ected Gert van l ngen as the new chairman of the Association, succeeding Ton van der Does who has now retired. Van lngen is the president of one of the Europe's largest industrial cogeneration portfol ios and was responsible far developing the largest industrial cogeneration pl ant in the Netherlands, at Akzo Nobel 's Delfzijl facil ity. Van lngen is responsible far the energy policy of Akzo Nobel Energy bv, incl uding energy efficiency programmes and monitoring systems far Akzo Nobel ; applied in the Netherlands, Germany, Nordic countries and the USA. in partnership with large utility companies he is accountable far about 700 MW of installed industrial cogeneration. in his acceptance speech, the new chairman expressed his desire to see a strong proposal far, and the energetic introduction of, a Directive on cogeneration from the European Commission, and pledged the introduction of certification of CHP electricity so as to value the environmental qual ity of CHP.
