This robust state is likely to continue over the next decade, with increased deregulation, market restructuring, and more and more variety in unit sizes. The article outlines projections of the market's future. The feverish pace of gas turbine orders has been continuing tor several years now, and it shows no signs of weakening. The worldwide market is healthy and shows substantial signs of confidence, while the industry itself continues to reorganize. For instance, ABB has lef! the power production business altogether, after a brief period in which it teamed up with Alstom. No longer involved with gas turbine production, ABB is tocusing on what it perceives as higher value segments such as control systems and software tor the plants themselves. Alstom Power has picked up the entire product range, consisting of its own products as well as those put together by ABB in Sweden and Switzerland. Meanwhile, GE continues to enjoy an unprecedented amount of success, both in North America and elsewhere so much so !hat it felt comtortable about cutting n e powered electrical power generation market 2001- 2010 Dresser-Rand loose as a packager. GE has acquired Stewart & Stevenson and Nuovo Pignone, and if it fully acquires Honeywell (not certain at the time of writing), it will have gas turbine products with a power range starting at 75 kW. As tor Siemens and Westinghouse, the merging of the two cultures appears to have laken place rather smoothly, with each taking advantage of their combined expertise in both gas and steam turbines -which, when considering optimum investment, can be promoted effectively in the cogeneration market. Two trends stand out in the current power generation market with regard to the equipment size. On the one hand, !here is a trend tor units of 125-180 MW and larger !hat generale electrical power tor a community, taking advantage of the sheer volume.
